Lance is a three year, male, Shih Tzu. He was rescued from a high kill shelter and arrived in total fear. When Lance arrived, he was frightened and hovered in the back of a crate. He was in total fear of human hands and needed several days before he could be touched. Lance is a gentle soul, but puts up a strong, courageous front. His heart is huge, but his fear of abuse forces him to act aggressive with strangers. Lance is a dog who needs time and patience to trust. Upon arrival, Lance's foster waited for Lance to feel secure enough to walk up and ask for attention. Lance will eventually walk to you, put his head down toward the ground and say it's OK to rub my head. He needs to feel safe first. Not everyone has the patience to wait for Lance to come around on his own, but it's totally worth it. Once Lance trusts, he turns into a wonderful, loving, well-mannered, house-trained, sweet boy. Lance walks well on a leash. He gets along great with other dogs and does well with cats. Lance is not aggressive with other animals and even provoked, will not lash back. He has no interest in being the alpha dog. He loves to play with other dogs and once comfortable, turns into a funny, loving, affectionate little guy. Not to mention, he is totally gorgeous! Lance is capable of being a perfect companion, but needs time to settle in. He improves every day and has come a long way since his initial rescue. What an awesome little guy! All UnderDogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm checked, microchipped, up to date on vaccines and heartworm/flea/tick preventatives.
